Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Load Inspection & Handling: Selecting appropriate lifting accessories (slings, chains, shackles) for the load, inspecting them for damage, and attaching/detaching them safely.
• Signalling & Communication: Providing clear, standardized hand signals or radio instructions to the crane operator to move, raise, or lower loads precisely.
• Safety Compliance: Ensuring all lifts adhere to the LOLER 1998 regulations and BS7121 code of practice.
• Hazard Assessment: Checking ground conditions, checking for overhead hazards, and calculating load weights/centers of gravity to prevent accidents.
• Site Safety: Maintaining safe, cordoned-off areas to protect workers and pedestrians during lifting operations.

• Certification: Typically requires a accredited qualification, such as the CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) A40 or NPORS Slinger/Signaller card.
• Communication: Strong verbal communication skills for radio use and proficiency in standard hand signals.
• Physical Fitness & Awareness: High level of situational awareness, spatial awareness, and ability to work in various weather conditions.
• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of load-bearing capacities, lifting equipment limitations, and site safety procedures

Lift Supervisor

• Certification: Valid Lifting Supervisor certification (e.g, CPCS in the UK).
• Experience: Proven experience in lifting operations, often requiring a background as a crane operator or rigger.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of lifting equipment, safety legislation, and technical drawings.
• Leadership: Strong communication skills to manage teams and liaise with site management.

Duties Include (But not limited to)

• Supervise Lifting Operations: Be present to oversee all lifting activities, ensuring they adhere to the established method statement and lifting plan.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g., LOLER in the UK).
• Site Inspection: Check that the ground conditions are safe for mobile cranes and that equipment is in safe working condition.
• Coordination & Communication: Act as the central contact for crane operators, riggers, and signalers to ensure clear communication.
• Risk Management: Conduct pre-lift meetings, risk assessments, and toolbox talks to identify hazards.
• Task Management: Direct rigging and lifting activities, ensuring only trained personnel are involved.
